Diagnostic Services

Advanced diagnostic testing to detect ocular and retinal disease early — often before vision is affected.

Normal canine fundus showing the tapetal region, optic nerve and retinal blood vessels

Fundoscopy

Examination of the retina, optic nerve, blood vessels and choroid using an ophthalmoscope, essential for detecting retinal disease before it is visible from the outside.

A dog having its eye examined with a portable slit lamp

General Eye Examination

A detailed evaluation of visual function and of the front and back of the eye, eyelids, and orbit, using a slit-lamp biomicroscope and indirect ophthalmoscope.

Measuring a cat’s eye pressure with a tonometer

Tonometry

Electronic measurement of intraocular pressure. Elevated pressure can cause complete blindness within 12 hours, so prompt testing is critical. Available for dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and small mammals.

A cat undergoing a Schirmer tear test

Tear Production Testing

Evaluates for dry eye disease, a frequent cause of ocular discomfort and irritation that can ultimately injure the eye.

A close-up view of a cat’s eye on a handheld imaging screen

Special Stains

Fluorescein, rose Bengal, and lissamine green stains to detect corneal ulcers and surface abnormalities.

Evaluation of a dog’s tear drainage

Nasolacrimal Duct Evaluation

A specialized probe assesses tear drainage from the eye to the nose and mouth, detecting clogs or damage that cause excessive tearing.

Chromatic pupil light reflex testing with red light

Chromatic Pupil Light Reflex (cPLR) Testing

Allows early detection of retina and optic nerve abnormalities — often before any vision problems occur. Developed by Dr. Grozdanić at Iowa State University in 2006.

Electroretinography equipment recording retinal responses

Electroretinography (ERG)

Records the electrical activity of the retina to detect photoreceptor and retinal disease. Requires a short dark-adaptation period.

An ocular ultrasound examination

Ocular Ultrasound

Examines structures of the eye and orbit, including high-frequency ultrasonography to detect abnormalities affecting fluid flow within the eye.

Learn More

Dr. Siniša D. Grozdanić performing an optical coherence tomography scan on a dog

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Non-invasive, high-resolution cross-sectional imaging of the retina, optic nerve, and cornea, revealing structural changes layer by layer.

Learn More

Confocal imaging for cancer diagnostics

Confocal Imaging

Confocal imaging to support cancer diagnostics and evaluate corneal disease.

Olfactory (Smell Sensation) Testing

Olfactory (Smell Sensation) Testing

Evaluation of smell sensation.

Hereditary & Congenital Ocular Defects

Hereditary & Congenital Ocular Defects

Diagnostic evaluation of inherited and congenital eye abnormalities.

Additional Meibomian gland imaging

Meibomiography (Meibomian Gland Evaluation)

Imaging to evaluate the Meibomian glands.

Computerized Tomography

Correction of entropion, ectropion, distichiasis, ectopic cilia, trichiasis, heavy eyelid folds, incomplete closure, and eyelid tumors to restore normal eyelid function.

A surgeon performing third eyelid surgery
